Clean Artificial Turf and Control Pet Odors

Start With Your Turf Product
Artificial turf needs cleaning even though it needs no mowing. Locate the care guide for your turf and infill before selecting cleaners. Recommendations differ between products. A cleaner suitable for the visible fibers is not automatically suitable for the backing, adhesive, or infill.
Remove Waste and Debris
Pick up solid pet waste promptly and rinse remaining residue gently. Check pet-use areas daily. Clear leaves and loose debris weekly and after storms using a plastic rake, soft broom, or gently directed blower. Keep loose waste out of pool water and storm drains.
Rinse Where Pets Spend Time
Use a garden hose with a gentle spray on frequently used spots. Adjust the routine to pet activity, odors, and your product instructions. Rain does not replace checking heavily used areas. Stop if water pools rather than draining. Avoid pressure washing as a routine homeowner cleaning method.
Treat Odors With Approved Products
Choose an enzyme cleaner specifically approved for artificial turf and your infill. Follow its dilution, coverage, contact time, and rinsing directions. Test an inconspicuous area first. Keep children and pets away for the label's stated period. Avoid bleach, mixed cleaning chemicals, and unapproved household remedies.
Handle Spills Before They Dry
Blot liquids with a clean cloth and lift solids without scraping the backing. For sticky residue, use mild soap only when your turf guide approves it, then rinse as directed. Do not use fuel, paint thinner, or a wire brush. Keep hot grills and equipment off the turf.
Know When Cleaning Is Not Enough
Recurring odor, persistent puddles, or residue returning after proper cleaning deserves an inspection. Note the affected spot, pet use, cleaner, and conditions when the problem occurs. Surface cleaning will not correct a sunken base or blocked drainage.
