Overview

Encore Carnation Azalea is a reblooming evergreen azalea with rich pink flowers and a substantial rounded presence in warm-climate gardens.

Mature Size and Habit

It forms a dense, upright-rounded shrub that broadens with age and can flower in more than one seasonal cycle. Plan for an established size of about 4 to 5 feet tall and wide.

Best Landscape Uses

Place it as a flowering foundation anchor, informal hedge, massed border, large container specimen, or repeating accent in an irrigated bed.

Sunlight

Morning sun with afternoon protection gives dependable color; full sun is possible where roots stay cool and evenly moist.

Soil, Drainage, and Irrigation

Use acidic, humus-rich, well-drained soil and avoid lime-rich fill, compacted clay pockets, waterlogged sites, and salt exposure.

Best Planting Season for Tampa and Central Florida

Fall through early spring is preferred because mild temperatures support root establishment before summer heat.

Pruning and Maintenance

Shape only after the main spring flush and avoid late heavy pruning that removes developing buds; renew selectively by removing an older stem at its base.

Wildlife Value

Repeated flowering can offer pollen and nectar to bees and butterflies when flowers are open and pesticide exposure is limited.

Cold and Heat Sensitivity

The shrub tolerates Central Florida heat with moisture and afternoon protection, while a hard freeze may injure buds, flowers, and fresh growth.

Safety, Roots, and Placement Warnings

All azalea parts are toxic if eaten; keep clippings and plants away from pets and children, and do not use where browsing livestock can reach them.

Invasive Concerns

This named cultivar is not listed as invasive in Florida, but it is nonnative and belongs in managed beds rather than conservation areas.
