Overview

Aloe vera is a nonnative succulent with thick water-storing leaves and tall yellow flower spikes. It brings bold texture to dry Tampa beds and containers.

Mature Size

Rosettes usually reach 1 to 2 feet tall and wide. Offsets gradually form a wider colony.

Light and Water

Full sun to bright partial shade works well. Water deeply, then allow soil to dry before watering again.

Soil and Drainage

Excellent drainage is required. Use sandy or gritty soil and raised beds where summer rain collects.

Care

Remove dead leaves and divide offsets when the clump becomes crowded. Avoid frequent irrigation and heavy organic mulch against the crown.

Landscape Uses

Use in succulent gardens, containers, rock beds, or protected modern landscapes.

Best Planting Time

Spring is safest after frost risk declines.

Safety and Tampa Notes

Freeze conditions damage foliage. Leaf latex may irritate skin or cause illness if swallowed. Keep plants away from pets and small children.

Florida Resource

Use the UF/IFAS Florida-Friendly Landscaping Plant Guide to compare regional conditions and placement options.

Local Delivery

Local delivery only in approved South Tampa ZIP codes. $600.00 minimum plant order. $100.00 flat delivery fee. Ecoscape will contact you to schedule delivery.
