Overview
Caribbean Agave is a sculptural evergreen succulent valued for narrow, cream-edged leaves that form a crisp radial rosette.
Mature Size and Habit
In Tampa conditions, a mature rosette is commonly 3 to 5 feet tall and about as wide.
Best Landscape Uses
Use it as an accent, in a rock garden, beside modern architecture, in a large container, or in a sunny coastal bed.
Sunlight
Full sun produces the tightest form and strongest variegation. Light afternoon shade is useful on reflected-heat sites, but deep shade weakens the rosette and reduces color.
Soil, Drainage, and Irrigation
Plant in sharply drained sandy soil or a raised bed. Water regularly during establishment, then deeply but infrequently.
Best Planting Season for Tampa and Central Florida
Plant from October through early spring when roots can establish before the hottest, wettest weather.
Pruning and Maintenance
Remove only dry lower leaves and unwanted offsets with clean tools. Do not shear the rosette.
Wildlife Value
The plant offers limited everyday wildlife value, though a mature flowering stalk can provide nectar for insects and hummingbirds.
Cold and Heat Sensitivity
Heat and humidity are well tolerated when drainage is excellent. Established plants handle short cool spells, but frost can mark foliage.
Safety, Roots, and Placement Warnings
Leaves end in sharp points and the sap may irritate skin. Set the plant well back from walks, play areas, pet routes, and maintenance access.
Invasive Concerns
This selection is not generally treated as a Florida invasive landscape plant, yet offsets and bulbils can spread near the parent.
Helpful Resources
Review current Florida guidance through UF/IFAS Gardening Solutions. Confirm site-specific irrigation, cold protection, and placement needs before installation.
