Overview
A refined evergreen holly with dense pyramidal growth, glossy foliage, and heavy red winter berries that works well in formal South Tampa landscapes.
Mature Size and Habit
It usually matures 18 to 25 feet tall and 8 to 15 feet wide. Its naturally upright habit allows use as a small tree or tall screen.
Best Landscape Uses
Use it as a specimen, privacy screen, corner anchor, entry tree, or clipped formal hedge. It provides strong vertical structure without the scale of a large shade tree.
Sunlight
Full sun to partial sun is suitable. Several hours of direct light support dense foliage and the strongest berry display.
Soil, Drainage, and Irrigation
Plant in well-drained acidic to neutral soil and provide moderate irrigation during establishment. Established plants tolerate short dry periods.
Best Planting Season for Tampa and Central Florida
Fall through early spring is ideal for installation in Tampa. Cooler weather reduces transplant stress and supports root growth before summer heat.
Pruning and Maintenance
Prune selectively to preserve the pyramidal form and maintain one or several clean trunks. Heavy shearing is unnecessary when the plant has adequate space.
Wildlife Value
Red berries feed birds in fall and winter, while evergreen branching provides cover and nesting. Small flowers also support spring pollinators.
Cold and Heat Sensitivity
It tolerates Tampa heat and ordinary winter cold. Newly installed trees need irrigation during dry weather and protection from severe root-zone disturbance.

Holly berries are toxic if eaten and create a pet concern. Give the mature crown clearance from walls, walks, and utility access.
Invasive Concerns
Eagleston is a cultivar of a naturally occurring Florida holly hybrid and is not invasive. Remove occasional unwanted seedlings during routine maintenance.
