Overview
Encore Chiffon Azalea is a compact reblooming evergreen selection with soft pink to nearly white flowers suited to refined layered plantings.
Mature Size and Habit
It grows as a tidy, mounded shrub with dense branching and a smaller footprint than many traditional landscape azaleas. Plan for an established size of about 2 to 3 feet tall and 3 feet wide.
Best Landscape Uses
Use it along walkways, in low foundation beds, containers, mixed borders, courtyard gardens, or repeated as a soft flowering edge.
Sunlight
Give it morning sun or bright filtered light and relief from harsh western exposure, especially near reflective paving or walls.
Soil, Drainage, and Irrigation
Plant in acidic, organic, freely drained soil that remains evenly moist; raised beds help where native soil stays wet or has been limed.
Best Planting Season for Tampa and Central Florida
Install during fall, winter, or early spring so roots establish in mild weather before Tampa's long hot season.
Pruning and Maintenance
Clip only lightly after the spring bloom to preserve the natural mound and later flower cycles; remove dead twigs and occasional lanky stems by hand.
Wildlife Value
Its flowers can support visiting bees and butterflies, particularly when the planting is combined with a diverse sequence of blooms.
Cold and Heat Sensitivity
Roots need cooling mulch and moisture during summer, while an unusual freeze can spot foliage or damage open flowers and tender tips.
Safety, Roots, and Placement Warnings
Azalea foliage and flowers are toxic if eaten, so avoid placement where pets, children, or livestock may chew the plant or discarded trimmings.
Invasive Concerns
This nonnative cultivar is not listed as invasive in Florida and is normally contained within maintained ornamental beds.
