Overview
Kimberly Queen fern is a nonnative upright fern with dense bright green fronds. Its tidy vertical habit makes it easier to place than sprawling fern varieties.
Mature Size
Clumps commonly reach 2 to 3 feet tall and wide.
Light and Water
Bright shade, filtered sun, or morning sun works best. Keep soil evenly moist during establishment. Established plants still need regular water during dry weather.
Soil and Drainage
Use rich, well-drained soil with organic matter. The root zone should stay moist without remaining saturated.
Care
Cut damaged fronds at the base. Feed lightly during active growth. Divide crowded plants when the center becomes thin.
Landscape Uses
Use in shaded foundations, containers, protected entries, mixed tropical beds, or repeating groups beneath palms.
Best Planting Time
Spring and early fall are ideal. Summer planting needs close moisture monitoring.
Tampa Notes
Cold snaps can burn foliage. Protected plants often recover from the crown when warm weather returns.
Florida Resource
Use the UF/IFAS Florida-Friendly Landscaping Plant Guide to compare regional conditions and placement options.
