Overview

Kiwi Ti Plant is a compact Cordyline fruticosa with mid-green leaves streaked in chartreuse and ivory and outlined by vivid pink-red margins. Its foliage supplies year-round tropical color.

Mature Size and Habit

Kiwi forms a bushy, upright cluster of slender canes, generally about 3–6 feet tall and 3–4 feet wide. Narrow-to-medium leaves arch outward from the cane tips.

Best Landscape Uses

Use it as a protected accent, colorful container plant, shaded courtyard feature, small grouping, or tropical foundation planting with contrasting green foliage.

Sunlight

Light shade to bright partial sun preserves clear variegation. Morning sun is useful, but protect leaves from intense afternoon exposure and color-reducing deep shade.

Soil, Drainage, and Irrigation

Provide moist, well-drained soil rich in organic matter. Water during dry weather and allow excess water to drain; drought browns margins, while saturation damages roots.

Best Planting Season for Tampa and Central Florida

Install during warm spring through early fall. Tampa gardens should use a sheltered microclimate; inland Central Florida sites benefit from a movable container.

Pruning and Maintenance

Remove spent lower leaves and prune lanky canes to encourage shoots below the cut. Wait until spring to trim freeze damage, fertilize lightly, and watch for mites, scale, and mealybugs.

Wildlife Value

Small seasonal flowers and berries are possible outdoors, but Kiwi is primarily a foliage plant with limited wildlife value. Add native bloomers nearby for habitat.

Cold and Heat Sensitivity

Kiwi is hardy in roughly zones 10–12 and enjoys humid heat with adequate moisture. Frost damages leaves and prolonged cold can kill stems, so protect it during freezes.

Safety, Roots, and Placement Warnings

Ti plant is toxic to dogs and cats if chewed. Keep it away from pets and young children. Roots are fibrous and nonaggressive; avoid salt spray, reflected heat, and pool splash.

Invasive Concerns

This cultivar is not native to Florida and is grown as a managed ornamental. It is not typically an aggressive spreader; remove volunteers or unwanted fruit.
