Crevalle Jack
Caranx hippos

A powerful silver gamefish with a steep forehead, yellow fins, and a black spot on the gill cover, common around Florida coasts.
Crevalle Jacks patrol beaches, passes, bays, inlets, and offshore waters on both Florida coasts. Juveniles often use estuaries and mangrove shorelines as nursery habitat.
Fast-moving schools drive baitfish toward the surface and attract seabirds. Their strength and aggressive feeding make them popular with sport anglers.
