Tampa Warns Residents About Utility Bill Payment Scam Calls

City of Tampa Utilities has warned customers about callers impersonating city employees and demanding immediate payment for supposedly overdue bills. Some calls appear to come from the utility call center because the city’s number is being spoofed.
If you receive a suspicious call, hang up and contact the Utilities Call Center directly at (813) 274-8811. Check your account balance at utilities.tampa.gov. The city says its representatives direct customers making card payments to an online payment tool rather than collecting card information during the call. Report suspicious calls to Tampa Police. Read the city’s October 8 alert for verification details.
