Dwarf Schefflera

Overview

Dwarf schefflera is a tropical evergreen shrub with glossy leaflets arranged like spokes. Green and variegated cultivars are widely used in Central Florida. Unpruned plants often reach 8 to 10 feet, though routine pruning keeps them lower.

Where to Use It

Use it for protected foundations, informal hedges, patio screens, containers, and shaded tropical beds. It accepts shaping well, but adequate spacing keeps the hedge from becoming woody and maintenance-heavy.

Light, Soil, and Water

Plant in sun to shade and in well-drained soil. Green cultivars handle shade better, while variegated types need brighter light to retain color. Water during establishment, then allow slight drying between deep irrigation cycles.

Best Time to Plant and Care

Plant in spring or early fall. Prune during warm active growth and remove crossing stems from the interior. Avoid hard pruning immediately before cold weather. Root rot develops where soil remains saturated.

Important Considerations
