Foxtail Palm

Overview

Foxtail palm is an Australian palm valued for its smooth gray trunk, self-cleaning crownshaft, and full feathery fronds. Mature palms usually reach 25 to 35 feet in Florida and create a strong tropical appearance.

Where to Use It

Use it as a specimen, matched entry pair, pool-area accent, or small group in protected Tampa landscapes. Its clean trunk and controlled canopy fit contemporary homes where a large spreading tree would overwhelm the space.

Light, Soil, and Water

Plant in full sun and well-drained soil. Supply regular water during establishment, then irrigate deeply during long dry periods. Palms need balanced palm nutrition suited to Florida soils. Follow local fertilizer rules and label directions.

Best Time to Plant and Care

Plant during spring or early summer when soil is warm. Keep the palm at its original planting depth. Fronds normally drop as they age, so remove only damaged or fully brown material when needed.

Important Considerations
