Ixora

Overview

Ixora is a tropical evergreen shrub known for dense clusters of red, orange, pink, or yellow flowers. Dwarf cultivars often stay 2 to 4 feet tall, while larger forms reach 6 feet or more in protected landscapes.

Where to Use It

Use ixora in sunny foundation beds, low flowering hedges, tropical borders, and pool landscapes. Group one color for a cleaner design. Give the plant enough room so frequent shearing does not remove flower buds.

Light, Soil, and Water

Plant in full sun to light shade and acidic, well-drained soil. Ixora performs poorly in alkaline soil, where iron and manganese become unavailable and leaves turn yellow. Maintain even moisture without keeping roots saturated.

Best Time to Plant and Care

Plant in spring after the coldest weather passes. Prune after a flowering flush and avoid constant shearing. Use acidic organic mulch. Diagnose soil pH before treating persistent yellow foliage.

Important Considerations
